Heady

"On 28 March 2014 a member of the public brought into our centre a brown shaver hen. She had a large injury to her head and comb area. There were in fact no feathers or skin on her head. You could see her skull.

The hen was in otherwise okay condition, a little thin but very friendly and talkative. She had been a stray in the area for about one week. We were unsure what caused the injury but our vet checked her and we applied diluted iodine to her head twice a day. Over the many months it took to heal, the skin finally grew over her skull but unfortunately her feathers never regrew.

During her recuperation some of our SPCA staff fell in love with her. 'Heady' as she is now known lives here at our SPCA as part of our Education Crew. She helps with the school holiday programme and will also this year, participate in our Street Appeal and Local A&P Show."
